"Church singing is not a hobby... It is first and foremost a duty, a duty of those to whom God has given musical talents... You join the angels, you do what the angels do perpetually. That is not an interest, avocation or hobby; it is a duty. Angels were created to serve and to praise, and you have been given voices for that same purpose.
"The choir leads the congregation in prayer. The invitation to prayer is put out by the deacon, and he invites prayer, but the choir leads the congregation in the prayer itself."
~ His Grace Bishop Basil
The choir's invitation to you...
The choir would like to invite you to sing with us. If you are in the congregation, and prefer to quietly listen to us, then we invite you to begin joining us in prayer, and singing softly along with us. It really doesn't matter if you feel you don't have a good voice - the point is to join us in prayer.
If you already sing softly along with us, we invite you to sing louder.
If you already adding your voice with our voices, your prayers with our prayers, we sincerely thank you, and we would ask you to consider joining us in the choir or as a chanter. We meet every Sunday at 9:00 AM before Divine Liturgy to practice, and roughly once a month after the Agape Meal.
As Bishop Basil said, singing in the choir is not a hobby, but a duty. It is also a blessing and a privilege. We add our imperfect voices to the songs of the angels in praising God. There are always open positions for the choir, chanters and readers. If you are interested in joining us, or just in learning more, please fill out the form below to contact us.
